Please join Bern’s Fine Wines & Spirits on Friday February 8th from 6:30-8:00pm for a Crush Hour featuring wines from Paso Robles California.

Paso Robles has made a name for itself as a source of supple, powerful, fruit-driven wines, but with eleven smaller sub-AVAs, there is actually quite a bit of diversity to be found in this inland portion of California’s Central Coast. This is mostly red wine country with Cabernet and Zinfandel standing out as the star performers, with Grenache and Rhône blends, both red and white making an appearance here and there.

Five cheeses from the Bern’s Cave du Fromage will be paired with the wines, along with house made breads. The price is $25.00 per person. Reservations are requested and seats are limited, book your seat by hitting the link.

    Featured Wines

    2017 Halter Ranch Picpoul Blanc
Picpoul Blanc is a Rhone varietal commonly associated with the Languedoc-Rousillon and Chateauneuf-du-Pape regions in Southern France. Picpoul Blanc loosely translates to Iip stinger, a reference to its natural high acidity. Although we traditionally use Picpoul Blanc as a blending grape, in special years we will bottle a standalone offering. This wine mimics its French counterpart in Picpoul de Pinet with a lean body and bright acidity. Aromas of crushed pineapple, key lime pie and orange blossoms lead to a light, silky palate with notes of pink grapefruit and lemon meringue. Winery Notes

    2016 Niner Chardonnay
There's a compelling tang of preserved lemon to the nose of this bottling by Molly Bohlman, along with hints of sandalwood, hazelnut and toast. There is impressive grip and laser-like acidity to the palate yet it retains a creamy mouthfeel, showing flavors of toasted oak, pear and chalk.  93 points Wine Enthusiast

2016 Austin Hope Cabernet Paso Robles, California
Deep ruby in color, the 2016 Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon expresses intense fragrances of black currants, ripe black cherries, and blackberries with subtle notes of violets, mocha, and dried spices. It’s a big, powerful, modern-styled wine with velvety tannins and heaps of juicy blackberry and cherry fruit, while nuances of cedar, clove, and vanilla bean round out the long, smooth finish. It’s full-bodied, rich and balanced by fresh acidity with a supple, polished tannin structure.

2014 Niner Fog Catcher Red Blend Paso Robles, California
Composed of 37% Cabernet Franc, 29% Petit Verdot, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Malbec, the 2014 Fog Catcher reveals a very deep garnet-black color and is scented of cassis, black berries and warm plums plus suggestions of pencil shavings, sautéed herbs, dusty earth and Indian spices. The medium to full-bodied palate is full-on gorgeous with grainy, beautifully ripe tannins, expressive fruit that simply sings with vibrancy and a lovely savory background, finishing with impressive persistence. 93 points Robert Parker

2016 Halter Ranch Cotes de Paso Red Blend Adelaida Distric. Paso Robles
Grenache provides a bright fruit-forward entry, Mourvèdre adds spice notes, while Syrah brings some weight to the mid-palate, and Tannat ties everything together with color, tannin and acidity.  Loaded with aromas of dried strawberry, cinnamon sticks and potpourri, this delicious wine has an elegant palate that leads to a long smooth finish. 92 points Wine Enthusiast

2015 Cass Winery Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles, Califonia
The nose leads with juicy black fruit, crushed allspice, fresh flowers and sweet tobacco. Approachable tannin and soft acidity underscore nuances of dark plum, tart cherry, eucalyptus and creme de cassis. The finish is bright and fresh providing a perfect pairing with everyday cuisine.  Winery Notes

2014 Cass Winery GSM Paso Robles, California
The nose initially displays bright red cherry, fresh cranberry and dragon fruit scents. Mourvedre’s unique varietal characteristics of caramel, forest floor and charcuterie highlight hints of fresh cut mint. On the palate, bright acidity pops open, in the true Mourvèdre fashion. Complex flavors are showcased with notes of pomegranate, dried cranberries, whole white peppercorns and crushed geranium flowers.  Winery notes

    2015 Brady Cabernet Sauvignon
The Brady Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is big and bold, featuring deep crimson color and aromas reminiscent of blackberry, black currant and cassis with subtle notes of roasted vanilla and spice. On tasting, it shows opulent silky texture and juicy berry and bramble flavors that echo the aromas with just a hint of velvety oak lengthening the finish. Winery Notes
