Bern’s Fine Wines & Spirits invites you to join us for an intimate evening, Thursday March 14th from 6-7:30pm, with Freemark Abbey’s winemaker, Ted Edwards.

Freemark Abbey has been a trendsetter since its inception in 1886.  Newly widowed Josephine Tychson built and operated the original redwood cellar and became Napa’s first female winemaker on record, and the list goes on for this historic site:  First to open a ‘sampling room’, first to have a "vineyard designate" wine and of course, they were a part of The Judgment of Paris.  This property holds a special spot in the hearts for most Napa enthusiasts, and for us here at Bern’s Fine Wines.

    Featured Wines

    2016 Napa Valley Chardonnay
Light green straw in color, expresses fruit aromas of green banana, guava, apricot, peach and citrus such as mandarin orange and grapefruit. French oak aging is well integrated with the barrel fermentation of fresh baked bread. This wine has great viscosity, depth, and an intriguing long finish. Flavors are lively on the palate with pear, citrus, lemon-lime, green apple and fleshy peach. Shows complexity, creaminess, and elegance to compliment a variety of foods.

    2014 Napa Valley Merlot
Dark ruby color, with expressions of rich dark fruit of blackberry, dark cherry, and a little spice complexity of black pepper, sage, and earth. The integrated oak component expresses cinnamon, clove and aromatic cedar. The entry and finish on the palate are smooth, with integrated fruit resembling black cherry. The wine has a good overall balance of fruit, body, resolved tannin and balanced acidity. The depth of fruit coupled with the richness of flavor profile that delivers from the initial sip, and continues on the palate for a long finish.

    2014 Napa Valley Cabernet
Opaque, dark ruby color introduces this wine that expresses dark fruit aroma and flavors. With spicy sweet oak complexity, the wine exudes dark fruit such as blackberry, black currant, blueberry, and dark cherry. There are nuances od dark chocolate, chocolate berry truffle dusted with cocoa powder, cola, aromatic cedar, cinnamon, clove, graham crackers, and a hint of tobacco. The body is very full with a soft entry, coupled with dark cherry/berry flavors that develop from start to finish. With great texture and mouth feel, this Cabernet is full-bodied, rich, and opulent.

    2014 Rutherford Cabernet
Black ruby in color, this wine has intense depth. Aromas leading with blackberry, black currant and jammy black fruit, are all integrated with toasty oak, dark chocolate, and a hint of black pepper. This is a vey big wine, full-bodied and balanced with fruit-forward flavors coupled with good acidity and a modest tannin structure.

    2014 Sycamore Cabernet
The Sycamore Vineyard lies right up against the Mayacamas Range with slopes of rich clay loam soils allows for intense color and flavor. Dominated by deep flavors of blackberry, dark currant, and sweet black cherry with nuances of blackberry jam, toast, cocoa-dusted truffle, cinnamon, and clove. Well-integrated oak adds spice; hints of tobacco and briary thicket on the nose add complexity. Full-bodied with well-integrated tannins lead to a pleasant, fruitful finish.
