Ricossa

Sort results:
Ricossa is the name of a pioneering family from Portacomaro d’Asti in Italy’s Piedmont region. The Ricossas gained prominence and historical stature in the late 1800s by working closely with local growers to source grapes for making wine and distilled spirits. At the turn of the century, capitalizing on the arrival of one of the earlier railways in Italy, Lorenzo Ricossa built a distillery in the center of town and a lodge that soon began hosting business people from all over Italy and abroad. The Ricossas’ enterprising wine and grappa business had forever changed Portacomaro d’Asti and increased the Ricossa family’s prominence. The local village distillery soon became the gathering place for grape growers of Piedmont and particularly Asti. In no time, this winemaking community became a cultural center for wine professionals and philosophers alike, exchanging ideas and debating events of the times. Ricossa wines today are still produced in Piedmont, one of the most renowned wine regions in Italy, and in a manner that expresses the traditional Piedmont winemaking style. Grapes are purchased from quality estates and vineyards under long term contracts to produce the finest Barolo, Gavi, Barbera d’Asti and Moscato d’Asti wines. Ricossa wines today are enjoying wide popularity in Italy and good consumer appeal in European and Asian markets. Ricossa wines have just arrived on the U.S. shores.
