Craggy Range

Craggy Range Te Muna Road Pinot Noir is highly colored, with youthful purple highlights. The complex aromas of black cherries, dark stone fruit and sweet herbs are offset by notes of forest, spice and nutty oak. These are confirmed on the palate, with classic varietal cherry and blackberry flavors and nuances of spice, herbs and vanilla. The texture is sensuous and the structure velvety, with extended length and refined power.

Wine Enthusiast

From Craggy’s own Pinot Noir vineyard, this medium-bodied, creamy-textured effort boasts bright, vibrant aromas of cherries and vanilla. It comes across as soft and easy but not unstructured, with plenty of persistence and elegance. Drink now–2012.

Score: 90. —Joe Czerwinski, November 01, 2009.

Wine Spectator

Bright and jazzy up front, with plum and red currant flavors on a lively frame, pointing straight through the long, generous finish, which ends with welcome toast and warmth. Needs time to settle into itself. Best from 2010 through 2014.

Score: 90. —Harvey Steiman, April 30, 2009.

Wine Advocate

The 2007 Te Muna Road Vineyard Pinot Noir has also come on leaps and bounds since last year. It has a deep, rich plum-scented nose with touches of orange zest and apricot both side of stage. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, grainy tannins, good acidity with a more masculine, tannic vintage than the entry suggests. Good weight, quite backward with a rounded, quite silky finish. It just lacks a little persistency and verve of the 2006.

Score: 90. —Neal Martin, September 2009.
